There are NO out-of-pocket expenses or gap payments for Bulk Bill services under the Child Dental Benefit Scheme.
Children who meet 3 Eligibility Criteria will be eligible for up to $1,000 in benefits over two calendar years for basic dental treatment (such as check-ups, x-rays, fillings and extractions).
1. Medicare Eligibility
Each child must be eligible to claim Medicare Benefits
i.e. have a Medicare Number
2. Age Eligibility
For a child to receive these benefits they must be aged 2-17 for the period of at least one day during the calendar year
3. Means Test Eligibility
In conjunction with the Medicare and Age eligibility, children MUST also be part of a family receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A OR a range of other government payments including:
- Youth Allowance
- Parenting Payment
- Disability Support Pension
- Carer Payment
- Special Benefit
- Double Orphan Pension
- Veteran’s Children Education Scheme
- Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act Education and Training Scheme.

The Medicare Teen Dental Plan has been replaced with a new scheme from 1 January 2014.
Patients who meet the eligibility criteria will be eligible for up to $1,000 in benefits over two calendar years for basic dental treatment (such as check-ups, x-rays, fillings and extractions).
Patients who met the eligibility criteria for the Medicare Teen Dental Plan will be eligible for the new scheme.
