Having a gleaming, white smile is the goal for just about everybody out there. Your smile is how we show people we care, and how we leave a positive first impression.

While teeth whitening has become a science, there are many things one can do to have a cleaner smile using just behavioral modification and things you can find around the home.

Below we’ve compiled several ways you can whiten your own smile at home. But, if you are looking for a whiter smile and greater oral health all around, it is always best to consult a dentist.

Do you use some of these tricks? Do you have your own? Comment below!

Rinse, Rinse, and Rinse Again

Many of the things we eat and drink – coffee, wine, and chocolate for instance – leave stains on our teeth. One thing many people forget to do is rinse after consuming these foods.

Rinsing with water throughout the day helps to remove the remains of what we drink and eat so they won’t stain the teeth. Additionally, rinsing after consuming food and drinks helps to restore your mouth to a proper pH, or acidity level, so that the nal processes that create saliva can continue to keep your mouth clean.

Fruits

Many fruits we eat every day can help clean and whiten our teeth. That’s because citric acid is a strong enough compound to break away buildup and stains on our teeth.

The ancient Romans used strawberries to clean their teeth, and we today have many fruits available to us that have a high-enough acidity to do the job. Just remember to rinse with water after you’re done.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The health benefits of apple cider vinegar are far and wide, and one its best uses is teeth whitening.

Traditional mouthwash is great for killing bacteria, but apple cider vinegar js effective for both removing bacteria and teeth whitening. We suggest swishing apple cider vinegar before you brush in the morning and at night for a whiter smile.

Greens!

Switching out some sides for greens is a great way to a whiter smile. Vegetables such as spinach have cellular structures that help actually scrub your teeth as you chew.

Celery is also a great snack that, eaten alone, will help whiten your teeth. Followed with a quick rinse and flossing, you’ll be one your way to a whiter smile.

Baking Soda

This is an age old trick used before the days of mouthwash and whitening toothpaste. In fact, brushing with baking soda – not necessarily a replacement for traditional toothpaste – has been used for teeth whitening for decades.

Baking soda is inexpensive, and helps you avoid some of the sugars found in almost all toothpastes.
